Thank you for your comments, "Get rid of yourself." I just dug up a copy of "At Daggers Dawn" and I'll try to post something about it after I finish reading.

And for Jared, a question: when you ask who is being freed, what do you think they are being freed from? Certainly not from capital, not in the way Marx theorized. I think the whole point of everyday politics is that capital is so prolific we can't escape it, so we need to find ways to live with it that still allow us to connect with each other and our social realities. Sure, the activities that allow us to "make do" are still labour, but the idea is to use our labour power in a different way, to somehow improve the quality of our everyday lives. Yes, there is work to be done - but there's work to be done anyway. Wouldn't you rather work to better ends? Admittedly, I don't know exactly what that would look like either - which is part of what I'm trying to work out here.

And a small bone to pick: There is no great enlightenment project that we're working towards - the great enlightenment project is what got us here in the first place.

Thanks Dalyn. The more I think about it, the more I wish I'd left it all up. I still have the post but the comment is permanently gone. Maybe I'll put it back up with an attached caveat or something!

Don't worry Bridget, I have plenty of complaining to do and it's bound to land here again!

Do the anarchist activities free the perpetrator or just the witnesses? I gotta say, the whole thing sounds to me like just more labour. It might be labour toward a great enlightenment project, but I think it still might be alienating. When you tell me there's this work to be done I ask: why do I have to do it?

I like Get rid of yourself's idea of living an example, but I have no idea what that would actually look like.

It's obvious to me that Marx's concept of the Dialectic isn't going to save us from Capitalism. There is a wonderful little book that you can find online for free called "At Daggers Drawn". It was very inspiring to me and I felt that it was loosely based on The Revolution of Everyday life and Society of the Spectacle.

I ask myself, when the majority is caught up in the spectacle and the banalities of everyday life, they're not thinking about class conflict, they're thinking about survival! Maybe showing folks how to live, giving them examples, being supportive and let them know it doesn't have to be this way. We're all capable of this realization; not all come to it.

I'd love to speak more on this, I really really really hate typing.

i would have left the post AND the comment up. sounds like the comment spoke for itself when it trivialized your personal thoughts and feelings by calling you an ungreatful (bitch) person. i believe if the writer of said comment took but a few minutes to read any of your many lovely posts they'd rethink as they anonymously typed. what kind of person would one be if never upset by disrespectful people? does the writer get upset when an inconsiderate driver nearly hits him/her as they walk across a street or do they wave hello and say a prayer for the starving children in China? i doubt it.
you have nothing to feel embarassed about. *dalyn

I'm not sure how to answer really. I just like to have some sort of record of things I've done that I can look back on. Maybe it's the same impulse that led me to keep everything I wrote - essays, stories, etc. - from grade school straight through university. I don't really know what that means or why, or what the larger purpose of it is. I don't feel like I need a purpose beyond just having it. Sorry - not much of an analysis!

What's the purpose of charting your progress with pictures? (I'm being intentionally obtuse here because I want to read some Analysis. ;)

Because if I have pictures of them I can see my progress. My mom does the same thing - she's a painter and she likes to keep photos of her work so that she can see where she's improved and what she's learned over time.
