Why I’m A Snob

Sometimes I cringe at people’s bad spelling. Like, to the point where I momentarily question whether or not I can take them seriously as a result. I don’t mind when people ask me how to spell things, even repeatedly, but it’s the published misspellings that hurt. Call me an irrational snob, please, because I totally am. It’s actually quite funny considering how terrible my grammar is.

I judge people based on their grammar and spelling and I’m not particularly apologetic about it. (ESL people are not included in this judgment.) My sister CONSTANTLY pluralizes by adding ’s. I’ve corrected her twice. It actually makes me uncomfortable to see it.

Oh god, Jared was right, I should be declared the holotype for “stuff white people like.” It’s embarassing how often I see myself profiled on that blog. And even more so that other people keep bringing it to my attention.

Gah, “’s” make me crazy too! As well as the reverse. I was editing a paper for someone once and every possessive was missing the apostrophe and I nearly cried.

Mind you, I make a point of repeatedly breaking certain grammar rules. I like beginning sentences with conjunctions and I thrive on sentence fragments. It’s like my own sad version of anarchy.

I use incorrect grammar all the time, but I know that I’m doing it. I guess that’s the difference? I never say something when someone makes an error once, but when it’s obvious that they’re doing it because they have no idea what the rule is, I sort of feel compelled to say something. I wouldn’t let someone run around looking like an idiot by saying “1+2=5,” you know?

I probably would, and then I’d write about them cryptically on my blog, because I can be a bitch sometimes. Ha ha.

Just kidding, I’m not that mean. Well, maybe I am.

But yeah, I hear ya. I have to restrain myself from correcting people’s grammar all the time cause I don’t want to come off like a pretentious cow.

Oh god! Your grammar post was about me, wasn’t it?! (Obsessively checks blog.) Hee hee!
